"What has changed is the mounds of newbies who are used to the Windows way of doing things and don't realize that their Linux install is a ticking time-bomb, ready to blow up right from under their fingers. Script kiddies are able to install Linux too nowadays, bringing them over from their relative powerless state on the Windows platform to the all-powerful Linux with its scores and scores of hacking tools. So, on one side we have batches of script kiddies who don't know when to stop. And on the other side we have piles and piles of default installs who don't have a knowledgeable root user."
