Abstract: Like the Arkua and Zalman heatsinks, the AVC 117140 has carved out a name for itself by going where no heatsink has gone before in terms of design and manufacture.

The AVC-labled fan 15mm thick 70mm fan used on the 117140 is a bit noisy, but not extremely so. The fan is more powerful than other AVC heatsinks used, as it draws 0.4A when powered up.

At FrostyTech we always like to give you the option to judge for yourself, so we place each heatsink in to a special Frosty Acoustic Sampling Chamber and take a recording of it in operation. To hear this heatsink, simply click on the pair of headphones pictured below.

There are really few heatsinks for the socket 478 Pentium 4 processor that cam be considered "performance" oriented. While basically anything which offers users better cooling than the socket Intel cooler is an increase in performance, we are really looking for large decreases in cooling temperature.

The AVC 117140, as you can see in the initial set of results, kills its extruded aluminum brother, the AVC 117160 (which does no use a copper core) and outperforms the stock Intel socket 478 heatsink. In fact, the numbers seem to indicate that the AVC 117140 is the best heatsink out of this set of reference coolers. Now that ain't too shabby.
