Abstract: Like the Arkua and Zalman heatsinks, the AVC 117140 has carved out a name for itself by going where no heatsink has gone before in terms of design and manufacture.

AVC 117140 Heatsink From All Angles
The Fan:
AVC like to stick on those little holograms on the fan impeller don't they! The 70mm fan is rated at 0.4A and is moderately noisy in operation. The fan attaches to the two plastic clips and that is all that keeps the heatsink in place. Given the construction used here there is no easy way to add a more powerful cooling fan, without a few modifications. The fan connects to the motherboard fan header and supports RPM monitoring.

Heatsink Top:
Trying to put this heatsink into words is no easy task, but I'm not about to cop out and just say "the picture says it all." This just wouldn't be a FrostyTech review if I did now would it? The copper core is sunk 13mm in from the tips of the fans in a little depression that is 10mm deep and 44mm in diameter. The copper core itself measures 30mm across. The solid aluminum section is only about 5mm thick at its widest point incidentally. There are a total of 53 fins.

Side A:
Shown as the Sun Flower cooler would be seen in the HSRM, the fan hovers about 6mm above the tips of the fins. The heatsink body is 36mm in height and 85mm wide.
Side B:
From this side shot you can see the little lever that applies pressure to the top of the AVC 117140 heatsink when it is installed in the HSRM. At the circumference, the fins are spaced about 3mm. Each fin is 1mm thick and positioned 1.25mm apart from the other at the central core.
Heatsink Base:
I'm not certain of the overall numbers here so this is really just a guess, but something on the order of 85% of the heatsink is cooling surface, which is quite extraordinary. The copper core is perfectly flat (measured with an engineers straight edge) and smooth. The 30mm copper core is just slightly above the surface of the aluminum section.
