DY1206BH-638 Heatsink From All Angles
The Fan:
Normally fan grills are for show. We may say they are there to protect fingers or to prevent wires from being sucked into the fan, but this is all false. Fan grills are for show.... most of the time anyway. On the Model-638 that grill is really important because this is one very powerful fan, and shorting out a fan that draws 0.8A could be messy. Made by Delta. Ear plugs are recommended.

Heatsink Top:
A very solidly attached Aluminum fan shroud protects the thing copper fins from damage and keeps the 38mm tall Delta fan 5mm above their tips. Each fin is about 0.3mm thick and spaced 1.0mm apart. There are a total of 36 fins and rather than being individual, they are all attached to one another by means of small interlocking tabs.

Side A:
This is a tall heatsink that stands 81mm in height. More than half of that is thanks to the 38mm Delta fan which perches on top of the lower copper fin section. The fins are not part of the base but rather attached by some type of thermal adhesive. The base edge is folded up just slightly to give the appearance that the entire fin section is one unit - very clever. The fan shroud only plays a small role in directing the fan exhaust down into the many thin fins. The copper base plate is 6mm thick.
Side B:
The fan wire are in heat shrink tubing and the fan is attached to a very well made heatsink assembly. Dynatron is one of the few manufacturers to opt for the tri-catch clip mechanism. Given the moderate weight, and more importantly the height of this cooler the tri-catch clip help to prevent the heatsink from shearing off bits of your socket. The clip by the way does require the use of a small flat head screwdriver to engage.
Heatsink Base:
Don't be discouraged by the four dimples, they are simply meant to help located the center region of the heatsink where the processor comes in contact. The base finish is slightly polished and perfectly flat. The edges of the base plate are milled in from 6.5mm to 10mm to clear the socket cam arm.
