The MC462-A sits at the top of all the heatsinks we have tested thus far. Even the all copper Blizzard cannot compete in this most recent comparison. The sheer size and mass of the SwiftTech cooler means it can absorb more thermal energy then the other heatsinks. While this is important when it comes to removing heat energy away from the core of the processor, it is also important for the heatsink to efficiently spread that heat across its' surface and then to the surrounding environment.

As you can see by the test results, the larger surface area of the large copper die template ensure that more heat is transferred to the thick copper base of the MC462-A. The SwiftTech cooler has a better time with the larger copper die template than it does the smaller one, though both temperatures are very low overall. Now lets take a look at the rise above ambient temperature results.

Again, the SwiftTech rises to the top of our reference heatsinks. With only a ~21.5 rise above ambient temperature on our synthetic test platform the MC462-A is quite an amazing performer. The large copper die template again showed even lower temperatures as it was more able to disperse the heat because of its' increased surface area. One of the main problems with small die processors is the difficulties the heatsink experiences with that localized heat source. To be effective it needs to take that small source of thermal energy and rapidly disperse it over the entire base to be most effective.
