SwiftTech have cut the power wires from the 12V, 0.56A fan and attached them to a standard Molex connector (not a pass-thru unfortunately).

I'm not sure what the maximum Amps are that a fan can draw from a fan header on the motherboard, but it's good to see that nothing is being left to chance. One wire remains from the fan which is plugged into the motherboard, and that is the tachometer lead wire.

Both cables lead to the fan. The yellow wire and 3-pin connector plug into the motherboard and serve as the tachometer for the fan. The Molex connector and nylon wrapped power cables power the 12V 0.56A Sanyo Denki fan.

Thus, the fan draws its' power directly from the powersupply while the motherboard is still able to monitor the fans' RPM.

From a closer side angle you can see the completed assembly on the motherboard. As you can see from the top image, the cooler completely covers the socket.

On the Tyan KTA we had one small issue with the tall capacitors getting in the way. (shown in the bottom image) While the notch that SwiftTech have introduced in the MC462-A Rev1 was perfect for this tight fit, but the capacitor Tyan used was simply too tall for it to matter.

Had the capacitor in that corner been like the one in the foreground, the Rev1 notch would have done its job very well.

We were able to get the MC462-A Rev1 to mount properly in the end by nudging the capacitor slightly. This can be a harzadous maneuver if the difference is too large.

Time to test out the MC462-A Rev1 heatsink on the Frosty Synthetic Temperature Test platform and compare it against a variety of heatsinks you already know...
