One of the most important upgrades with the MC462-A Rev1 is the corners. Each of the four corners is notched in about 9mm. The purpose of the notches as we mentioned, is to allow the heatsink to fit onto motherboards where capacitors have been placed too close to the socket and would otherwise interfere

All four corners are notched out to fit over closely positioned capacitors.
It's also interesting to note the bevels on the base of each aluminum pin. Whether or not the slight increase in the mass of the pin at one end helps thermal transfer to the rest of the pins' 29mm height is not something we can comment on, but can note that the interference fit is very tight. A good tight fit between the two materials will ensure the least amount of thermal resistance between the copper base and the aluminum pin.
The other upgrade is the move to the 53CFM Sanyo Denki 32mm thick 80mm fan. Looking down the barrel of this large heatsink you immediately get the impression that this is no ordinary fan.... and that it is probably going to be pretty loud.
Power and noise always seem to go hand in hand don't they? The 45dBa rating on the fan is noisy, and it really is up to you whether or not that is acceptable for your applications.
