If you've seen one Orb you've pretty much seen them all, but with the mini copper orb you'll immediately notice A.) that it weighs a good heavy amount, and B.) that beneath the fan are some pretty cool looking copper pegs. The fan appears to be standard to all of the Orb line. The fan motor is 24mm in diameter.

Having unscrewed the motor and removed it from the well, the mini copper orb shows its true colours. You really have to admit that the copper is eye catching!

The aluminum fins rise up about 30mm from the base of the well and are 7mm deep and 1mm thick. The fins are spaced about 2.5mm at the circumference, and ~1.75mm on the inner curve.

The clip on the mini copper orb is the same type of clip Thermaltake use for many of their Orb coolers. The aluminum portion of the fin structure is roughly 14mm high.

We found the clip very easy to use, and not overly stiff.

As we said before, Thermaltake have done a very good job to produce a flat, and smooth base for the processor to mate with. Since this is a copper base it is always advisable to be careful not to dent or damage the soft copper.

FrostyTech Synthetic Temperature Test Platform:

The FrostyTech Synthetic Temperature Test Platform consists of an aluminum block heated by a 120V 250 Ohm precision resistor producing 50W of heat. That heat is transmitted to the heatsink via the aluminum block and up through special copper die templates with thermistors embedded directly in them.

A temperature reading for a particular heatsink is taken once the temperature stabilizes in the copper die template. Since each of the die templates have the surface area of either a silicon topped or heatspreader-topped processor the flow of heat to the base of the heatsink accurately mimics a real life configuration.

Shown with the copper die template for a silicon-topped processor, the synthetic heatsink test apparatus awaits a coating of silver-based thermal compound and the Thermaltake DU0462-9 mini copper orb heatsink. A slightly larger copper die template was used to test the effective cooling ability of the mini copper orb atop a heatspreader-based processor like an overclocked PGA Celeron processor.
