Abstract: New RAM, new CPU's and such are very interesting, however, the most "exciting" and interesting products usually revolve around overclocking.

The Blue Orb is equipped with a 12V, 4600 RPM, speed sensing fan that can push between 15-20 CFM, all the while being whisper quiet at 26db. To measure temperatures, I used an external temperature probe with an LCD read out. I attached the tip right at the corner of the GPU.

Test Machine:

AMD Athlon 800 @ 1050Mhz,Abit KT7 Raid Motherboard,Asus V7700 Video card

The TEST:

To test the Orb, I measured temperatures at the default core speed of the Ge Force2, as well as the highest attainable clock speed. I have a benchmark to show the "benefits" of having the Blue Orb and hopefully the higher sustained overclock speed. I have already established that the memory on this video card can do 360MHZ reliably, so I left that setting alone for all tests.

200Mhz Core / 360Mhz Memory:

IDLE:

Blue Orb: 34C

Factory Heatsink: 43C

Quake III looping for 30 minutes:

Blue Orb: 35.5C

Factory Heatsink: 44C

215Mhz Core / 360Mhz Memory:

IDLE:

Blue Orb: 35C

Factory Heatsink: 43.5C

Quake III looping for 30 minutes:

Blue Orb: 37C

Factory Heatsink: 47C

As a nice surprise, the Blue Orb allowed me to overclock up to 230Mhz for the core speed. The factory heatsink was not stable at anything above 215Mhz.

230Mhz Core / 360Mhz Memory:

IDLE:

Blue Orb: 37.4C

Quake III looping for 30 minutes:

Blue Orb: 39C
