Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

The twin 120mm fans spin at 1300-800RPM and draw power from separate 3-pin motherboard fan headers (each with a manual fan speed control dial attached). The five copper heatpipes are 6mm in diameter. One fan is used to intake air, the other has a reversed impeller to exhaust air out from the fin stack.

The two fans clip into the beige plastic fan shroud so replacing them may be difficult. The heatsink stands 161mm tall, the bottom-most fin is 40mm above the CPU socket for clearance of adjacent motherboard components. The base incorporates a 10mm thick section to provide support for the heatpipes and mounting brackets. Each nickel plated aluminum fin measures 0.5mm thick and is spaced 2.0mm apart from the next.

The nickel plated copper base of the Thermaltake Jing measures 36x40m in size. The heatsink tower under all that plastic is ~120x60x110mm in size. The five 6mm diameter heatpipes are set 7mm on center at the base. The copper base plate ranges from 2mm to 5mm thick.

Base Finish and Flatness

Flipping a heatsink over to inspect the business end is often a simple indicator of overall cooler quality. More practically speaking, a heatsink is in many ways only as effective as the contact it makes with the processor - the flatter and smoother the better. Base finish is one of the criteria that Frostytech measure in the course of evaluating heatsinks, and it involves two distinct aspects. Surface Finish is the first; this is calculated with the aid of Surface Roughness Comparator that has a cross section of common machine surface finishes and their numerical surface roughness equivalents in microinches. The second is Surface Flatness. This is tested with an engineers straight edge or proven flat surface, in two axis.

The bright nickel plated copper base of the Thermaltake Jing heatsink has a surface roughness of approximately 8 microinches, which is considered excellent. Compared to an engineer's straight edge the base is flat in both axis.
