Abstract: The Thermalright MST-9775 LE is a two-heatpipe heatsink, and it doesn't have all that much in the way of surface area for cooling. The compact heatsink measures a modest 90mm tall, about 110mm square. It weighs 430grams.

Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

The Heatsink Fan:
The Thermalright MST-9775 LE heatsink has a 92mm PWM fan positioned over the body of the unit. The fan can spin anywhere from 500-2500RPM, but when connected by a 3-pin fan header defaults to static speed. No fan speed controller is included. The fan is held in place by two wire clips so fans of different sizes cannot be used.

Heatsink Frame
After removing the fan, we can get a better look at the two 35x110mm panels of cooling fins used here. Two 6mm diameter nickel plated heatpipes thread their way through the fins, the base and back through the fins. All joints are soldered to reduce thermal joint resistance. A 21mm space at the center of this area is left void. Each aluminum fin is 0.47mm thick, spaced 1.42mm apart.

Heatsink Side A:
Exhaust air from the 92mm fan is directed down through the cooling fins of the Thermalright MST-9775 LE heatsink. That exhaust air would normally flow through the small cooling fins on the base mounting plate, further cooling things off, except that Thermalright's LGA775 mounting clip blocks this space off completely. The cooling fins are raised 46mm above the base to provide good clearance around the CPU socket.

Heatsink Side B:
The Thermalright MST-9775 LE heatsink comes with a special metal bracket that uses standard Intel push-to-click plastic retention feet. The system seems compatible with other forms for brackets Thermalright has used in the past, although only the LGA775 bracket is include with this heatsink. The base is 15mm thick, including a 5mm copper block which has been soldered to it. Each aluminum fin in profile measures 110mm across, 22mm deep.

Heatsink Base:
The base of the Thermalright MST-9775 LE heatsink has a sanded finish which is essentially flat in both axis. The copper has been nickel plated, and the mounting area measures 40x36mm. Surface roughness is equivalent to ~63 microinches, which is considered average.
