Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

The Heatsink Fan:
The 92x92x25mm fan set within the body of the Asus Arctic Square heatsink is PWM controlled. The fan spins at a quiet 2300RPM otherwise, generating about 44 dBA at most. The fan connects via a 4-pin PWM compliant motherboard fan header and is backwards compatible with 3-pin connectors. Four blue LEDs internally illuminate the fan, an effect which is just barely visible from the outside of the heatsink. The upper body is 105mm wide.

Heatsink Top:
With the top cap and fan carriage removed from the Asus Arctic Square heatsink we can see more clearly how the unit is constructed. The aluminum fins are soldered to the four copper heatpipes, and each fin measures 0.4mm thick. Fins are spaced 1.75mm apart. The bulk of the cooling fin is 107mm x 32mm. The mounting base measures 40x38mm.

Heatsink Side A:
The Asus Arctic Square heatsink stands 132mm tall, and the fins make up 76mm of that. The 92mm fan is set within the cooling fins so noises are muffled and airflow need not be strong. The bulk of the heatsink is elevated 40mm above the base to provide clearance for capacitors.

Heatsink Side B:
The four heatpipes are soldered to the copper below, and the aluminum heatsink fins above. The 40 mm area where the fins are five indicates the space the fan occupies inside the heatsink.

Heatsink Base:
The copper base of the Asus Arctic Square heatsink is plated with nickel to resist oxidation, and has a sanded finish. The base surface is very slightly wavy in one axis and pretty flat in the other. The portion of the base that makes contact with the processor measures 32 x 38 mm. Surface roughness is at or better than ~32 microinches, which is considered very good. Note how the fan is nested within the body of the heatsink with a small 6 mm plenum on either side to improve airflow characteristics.
