Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.
The Heatsink Fan:
The 80x80x25mm Panaflo FBL08A12M fan has rotates at ~2500RPM to move 27.5CFM with relatively little noise. In our tests, the Thermaltake Silent Boost K8 produced just 49.7 dBA. Unfortunately the 80mm fan is not protected by any grill. A 3-pin cable connects to the motherboard fan header, and supports RPM monitoring.

Heatsink Top:
The stacked copper fins overhang the copper base they are soldered to along one side. Each 38mm wide fin connects with 20mm of surface at the base. The aluminum shroud which supports the fan has mounting holes for 80mm and 70mm fans so users have the option of installing different sized fans. The support also creates a 5mm plenum above the copper fins to promote more even airflow.

Heatsink Side A:
The copper base of the Thermaltake Silent Boost K8 measures 5mm thick, which is a little less than typically used. The stacked copper fins are soldered to the copper base plate. Each fin measures ~0.2mm thick and spaced 1.5mm from the next. Note the venting in the fans' black plastic frame.

Heatsink Side B:
A K8 clip mechanism used on this heatsink is all metal, and tool free. Once the metal tabs are locked into the retention frame, rotating the cam arm applies the necessary force.

Heatsink Base:
The 74x50mm copper base has a sanded finish which translates into a surface roughness of ~32 microinches. The surface is flat in the x-axis, and very slightly convex in the y-axis (as looking at the image at left). This might have something to do with the Thermaltake name being stamped into the copper.
