Dynatron A22 V-Shaped Skived Athlon64 Heatsink Review
Dynatron A22 V-Shaped Skived Athlon64 Heatsink Review

Abstract: The heatsink at first appears to be nothing more than a plain aluminum skived heatsink, but closer examination reveals a couple very effective innovations, not the least of which are the V-shaped fins.

Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.
The Heatsink Fan:
The 70x70x15mm fan spins between 3000RPM (32°C) and 5700RPM (42°C) depending on ambient air temperature in the chassis as determined by a small thermistor located at the edge of the motor hub. The 11-bladed Delta fan impeller produces anywhere between 24-47CFM air flow. There is no fan grill, which is worrisome when it rotates at full speed. The fan draws power from a standard 3-pin motherboard fan header that supports RPM monitoring.

Heatsink Top:
After the fan support have been removed, the knife-edged surface of the 51 v-shaped skived aluminum fins are visible. A 16mm wide space supports the K8 clip mechanism. Each skived fin is about 30x33mm in size. The aluminum fan support creates a 3mm plenum over the fins of the heatsink.

Heatsink Side A:
Once clipped onto the plastic retention frame, the heatsink is locked is installed by rotating the locking arm until it is fully engaged. The aluminum base of the heatsink itself is 6mm thick. The total height of the Dynatron A22 heatsink is 59mm.

Heatsink Side B:
There are two rows of 51 skived aluminum fins on the Dynatron A22 heatsink. The fins are spaced about 1mm apart, and measure 0.5mm thick. The tips have been left in their natural state, and have a knife-edge. The fins connect to the base at an angle, and are also angled inwards at the top.

Heatsink Base:
The 68mm x 77mm aluminum base is very nicely machined, and perfectly flat and smooth. Surface finish is at or better than a roughness of ~4 microinches). A small packet of silicon thermal compound comes with the heatsink, and of that only a very light coating is really needed.
