It is obvious that the initial thermal results are very good for the JMC 401100 Phoenix 70 Pentium 4 heatsink. The large aluminum body, unique radial cut body, and large amount of surface area all work together to keep the temperatures on the test platform very cool indeed.

The results are so close for the JMC 401100 there really is very little distinction between it and the other performance socket 478 coolers on the reference list. One key point to consider as you look at those results is naturally that the sound levels of each cooler can vary radically - as each employs a different type of fan. The Zalman cooler is the quietest by far, but also takes up more space than this heatsink.

With long term use of the JMC 401100 I think it would be very important to ensure the fins within the heatsink to not get clogged with any large amounts of dust. The other coolers at the top of this list have relatively wider spacings between their fins, so because of how the JMC Phoenix 70 works, dust buildup could pose an issue. In any event, even though the unit we tested was a prototype and still a little rough around the edges, the Phoenix 70 performed excellently. Thermal results put it in the performance class, though because of a 5500RPM fan, noise levels are moderate.

Given the right mounting hardware (401100 for P4, 401110 for xeon), this heatsink could easily be used for a workstation system, or even standard pentium 4 as was the case tested here. Bottom line, looks great and performs just as well.
