Synthetic Temperature Test Results: *Ranked according to 100W small interface die test results.
When we look at socket A heatsinks it is with a few sets of criteria - since the Taisol CMK702151A falls under the low noise category the conditions are slightly more laxed. With low noise coolers the focus is on noise levels first, and thermal performance thereafter; usually to simply average levels. In the initial set of results, the Taisol CMK702151A ranks in towards the lower end of the scale, but we'll have to look at the final temperatures before rushing to judgement.
The Taisol CMK702151A makes use of a very innovative means to keep socket A AMD processors cool - by moving the heat from the base up via three heatpipes to a much larger set of thin-fins the heatsink is able to cool on a much quieter scale. The level of cooling is a little lower than other heatsinks on the reference list, but entirely within limits, and fairly quiet. As a low noise heatsink the Taisol CMK702151A has good potential for users with full tower cases. Because of its' size however, it may not fit in some older enclosures where the powersupply is located over the processor area. Taisol have a good low noise cooler here, but I still think there is room for improvement on a few points. The copper base is a good aspect of this heatsink, but I'm left wondering why Taisol have opted to use a thermal compound interface instead of simply soldering the heatpipes to the base? CPUmate have recently shown us their heatpipe heatsink which makes good use of heatpipes soldered to nickel plated aluminum which is another possible method to consider. The fins on the CMK702151A seem rather thick, and while this does help to promote good airflow I must admit that the similarities between this heatsink and a standard copper tube aluminum fin heat exchanger make me curious to see what kinds of results could be obtained from using thinner, and more closely spaced aluminum fins.... a few minor revisions could make this heatsink very cool, and very quiet. Pun intended.
