With more surface area to work with, Pentium 4 heatsinks tend to all be very good performers. The Tocools Regal doesn't quite mange to come in at the top of this list of reference heatsinks, but it doesn't come in at the bottom either. A look at the final rise above ambient temperatures will set everything in place, so let's jump to that now.

While the Tocools Regal doesn't mange to come in under the performance cooling line, it does come quite close. It was not too long ago that we would have considered anything under 35 degrees rise above ambient "performance", but as the heatsink manufacturers have continued to innovate, the standards have been raised.

Ultimately, the Tocools Regal proves its capability as a very good Pentium 4 heatsink, and one that offers a few degrees better thermal performance than the stock Intel heatsink (though it is drastically louder).

Tocools have a serious issue with selecting the right kind of clip assemblies to use with their heatsinks. The Tocools Regal has very good thermal performance, but the two spring tensioned wire clips that hold the unit in place are far from ideal.

It is not as though they are hard to install, it's just that the clips may not stay put in the event the case is bumped hard. As with the socket A Novasonic cooler which had excellent thermal performance but a poor clip mechanism, Tocools really ought to design the pentium 4 Regal heatsink with a clipping system that holds better. In any case, the Regal is still a very good cooler.
