It was hard to tell what to expect from this new type of YS-tech fan, given that is does make noise, but not in the exact same way. During our testing we found that the noise the TMD fan does produce is of a very low pitch, and mostly seems to stem from the air moving through the Swiftech Helicoid pins.

At times I found I didn't even notice the noise, even though the test platform is sitting on the desk right in front of me. Given the even distribution of air from all sides, and from below the fan, it will be interesting to see how this affects the cooling performance of the Swiftech against others in the field. Sound Level Measurements:

Listening to the actual noise a heatsink makes allows you to hear what pure numbers alone cannot get across. To further emphasize FrostyTech's reliance on cold hard facts when evaluating a heatsink, we also take Decibel readings with a sound level meter. The stock Intel heatsink is pretty damn quiet. This a big reason why many of us have begun to switch over to Intel and leave AMD in the dust. AMD may have better gaming characteristics, but Intel is much quieter, and less hot. In this case the DC1207BMW is dead center in terms of noise production for a socket 478 Pentium 4 heatsink.
