Acoustic Samples: Listen to this Heatsink!

It was difficult to get a good representative sound waveform of this heatsink because at 3000RPM the fan is very quiet. We won't be able to present a waveform or sound sampling with the fan at full tilt because at this time we can't get those kinds of environments to work in the Frosty Acoustic Chamber. In any case, the heatsink was measured at its lowest fan RPM with a noise output of just 43.7 dB (very low).To listen to this heatsink for yourself, simply click on the little pair of headphones and download the MP3 recording. Please remember this is only of the lowest fan speed, and when operating at 6800RPM the HSC-V62 is equivalent to that of a standard heatsink in terms of noise level.

Sound Level Measurements:

Listening to the actual noise a heatsink makes allows you to hear what pure numbers alone cannot get across. To further emphasize FrostyTech's reliance on cold hard facts when evaluating a heatsink, we also take Decibel readings with a sound level meter. These results may be higher than the manufacturer's listed specs, but then again these are real world measurements.

Coolermaster are aggresively going after the thriving new low-noise cooling market, and both the HSC-V62 (at low RPM, and thus low temperatures) and rather new HHC-L61 meet those demands head on. With a measured noise level under real world conditions of 43.7 dB the HSC-V62 is pretty quiet when it needs to be. Please note that under full load, the noise level can range up to the mid-50's in terms of decibels. Let's now see how the heatsink performed in our thermal tests...
